OB1 arrives on your doorstep 90% unassembled. Why? As former mechanics and racers, we know how a professional build and fit unlocks tremendous benefits. We passed that savings on to you to invest in a proper build and fit.

1. Pre-order

Select your size, color, and wheels. For advanced configurations, you can also configure your drivetrain, seatpost, stem length, handlebar width, and chainring size.

2. Production

We order your components directly from the industry's top factories. This takes 16-20 weeks.

3. Assembly and fit

Your 90% unassembled bike arrives on your doorstep. Bring it to your local mechanic for a professional build and basic fit (typically $195-$295).

Choose between our Aero-Wide 700C or Ultra-Wide 650B carbon wheelsets - or pick up both for an extra $1299 (with cassette, tires, rotors, and valves). These aren’t placeholder wheels: they’re some of the best in the industry.

We’ve optimized our wheelsets for a balance of performance, durability, and serviceability with wide offset carbon rims, 54t engagement cartridge bearing hubs, and 28 bladed cold-forged spokes per wheel.

OB1 is made for all day epics. Its compact handlebar features a subtle 10 degrees of flare to keep you aero on the tops and in control in the drops. Its taller head tube lets you get into a dialed position while maintaining your bike’s racy look. DRIVETRAINS FOR EVERY PREFERENCE

Love the simplicity of a single? Prefer the range of a double? Don't worry, we've got you covered.

OB1's single ring comes with your choice of chainring paired to an 11-42t cassette with 11 evenly spaced gears for a wide 382% range. The narrow-wide chainrings work with the clutched derailleur to keep the chain from slapping or dropping on rough terrain, and adjustments are a breeze.

OB1's double ring (+$195) is anchored by a one-piece 50/34t chainring cluster and comes paired to an 11-36t cassette for an even wider 481% range.

A BOTTOM BRACKET THAT WON'T CREAK

Cycling tech journalist James Huang said it best: "press fit bottom brackets totally suck". Mechanics loathe them, and so do we.

That's why we invested in oversized, precision-milled aluminum bearing cups that thread into each other to create a stiff, secure, and perfectly aligned shell to support our widely-spaced, large-ball cartridge bearings. It's the same solution that mechanics turn to when others' press fit bottom brackets fail, and ours has extra seals to keep out the weather and muck.

A LIGHT BOMBPROOF CRANKSET

7075 aluminum is tough stuff. The OB1's crank arms are hollow-forged out of individual billets under 600 tons of pressure to form their strong and lightweight box-section shapes. The oversized BB386 spindle is machined out of it due to these same properties, as are our direct mount chainrings for resistance to wear.

The result is outstanding stiffness-to-weight in a package that will hold up under extreme loads and rock strikes.

WHY WE CHOSE IT

We created SteerSafe to ensure your carbon steerer is fully supported against stem clamping forces. SteerSafe is an aluminum tube with built-in starnut that gets bonded into our carbon steerers at the factory. To shorten a SteerSafe equipped steerer, simply cut through the carbon and aluminum layers using a guide and a carbon-specific blade as you would a normal carbon steerer, then use ultra-fine sandpaper to create a smooth, slightly rounded edge. Finish by applying carbon grip paste to the steerer and torquing the lubricated stem bolts to 5 Nm.

WHY WE CHOSE IT

Each thru axle is machined from a single billet of ultra-premium 7075 AL. With a built-in washer for smooth installation, our bolt-on thru-axles offer stiffness, security, and easy wheel removal without the extra ~100g of weight of levered designs and uses your cycling multitool's 5mm hex wrench.

WHY WE CHOSE IT

OB1's seat clamp hides a clever secret. Machined from a single billet of ultra-premium 7075 AL, it achieves its integrated look while utilizing a traditional clamping interface that, unlike many proprietary clamp designs, evenly distributes forces. This helps prevent damage to frame or post, post slippage, or post binding (dropper post). We finish it off with a lubricated nut and bolt for a lifetime of trouble-free use. Be sure to coat your seat post in carbon paste before installing.

WHY WE CHOSE IT

Selected for durability, OB1's extra large 1-1/2” angular contact lower cartridge bearing distributes the extreme loads this component experiences over more and larger balls. The sealed top cap provides an extra barrier to water penetration and its replaceable aluminum split crown race protects the carbon steerer crown from wear. While it adds a few grams relative to smaller diameter options, we don't believe in shedding weight at the expense of durability.

WHY WE CHOSE IT

Flexy derailleur hangers compromise shifting and are quick to fail. OB1's is stiff and strong to withstand the greater loads placed on it by today's long-cage derailleurs and wide range cassettes, but will still sacrifice itself to protect the derailleur and frame in the event of a major impact. And don't worry - we include an extra just in case.

WHY WE CHOSE IT

OB1's seatpost weighs less than many carbon posts yet is safe to use with clamp-on accessories like bikepacking seat bags. It's quill is forged from a single billet of ultra-premium 2014-T6 aluminum for strength and weight. The 2-bolt head and oversized lower clamp plate offer superior saddle security, support, and micro-adjustability.

A dropper post is a total game-changer. Dropping the saddle out of the way allows you to shift your center of mass back and low while freeing your legs to act as suspension. The result is increased control, speed, and confidence over steep or aggressive terrain. They're even great for fast road descents. We've been riding droppers on our drop-bar bikes since before it was cool, so whether you're looking to get shreddy off-road or just want to feel safer on that downhill sweeper, a dropper is an option well worth considering.

Aero on the tops, control and comfort in the drops. With a short reach, shallow drop, and subtle 10° of flare, our handlebar keeps you narrow when motoring on the hoods while offering greater leverage when cornering, descending, or shredding dirt in the drops, all while reducing back and wrist strain. Wide, short, cut-out saddles like VELO's VL-1966 first gained popularity amongst triathletes and time-trialists looking for improved comfort over long stints in extremely aggressive positions. WHY WE CHOSE IT

Strong, Stiff, Light: Pick 3. How do you create a crank that achieves extraordinary stiffness-to-weight in an easily serviceable package that isn't afraid of a rock strike? Take two billets of ultra premium 7075 aluminum. Smash each under 600 tones of force to form two hollow, box-section arms. Then take another billet of that same alloy and machine it into a large diameter BB386 spindle to push the bottom bracket's oversized bearings as far apart as possible for even more stiffness and durability. Sandblast rather than polish all surfaces to pound-out microfractures, machine out required interfaces, and anodize everything for an even harder and longer-wearing finish. On the non-drive side, press the spindle directly into the arm to reduce weight. On the drive side, use a single oversized bolt to cinch the burly spline interfaces of the arm and spindle together for easy crank removal and chainring swapping.

WHY WE CHOSE IT

Functionally Identical to Force 1 except for an AL vs. Carbon front cage plate (~8g), SRAM's Rival 1 long cage rear derailleur features worthwhile upgrades over Apex 1 that include more durable cartridge bearing pulleys and a 50g+ lighter weight. It's clutched main pivot prevents chain slap and drops when charging through rough terrain, and its clever cage-lock feature makes swapping between wheelsets a breeze.

WHY WE CHOSE IT

Cheap plastic "Press Fit" bottom brackets need to die. Bottom brackets experience extreme loads under harsh conditions. Yet despite years of complaints, many companies are still pressing cheap plastic "Press Fit" or "PF" BB shells directly into their frames to cut cost without you noticing. This practice predictably results in poor bearing alignment and support, increased friction under load, accelerated wear, creaking, and in extreme cases even irreparable damage to the frame.

Our precision-milled aluminum bearing cups thread into each other to create a stiff, robust, and perfectly aligned shell to support our widely-spaced, large-ball cartridge bearings. It's the same $70+ solution that mechanics turn to when others' Press Fit BBs fail. Sure, it adds a few grams and quite a bit of cost, but the result is an efficient-under-load, durable, and easily serviceable BB that won't let you down.

WHY WE CHOSE IT

This chain gets the job done with neither fanfare nor fuss. Designed by SRAM to work with all their 1x11 drivetrains, the workhorse PC1110 shifts and wears as well as far more expensive models. Keep it clean, treat it regularly with a wax-based lube, and replace it the moment your checking tool (you do have one, right?) indicates elongation in order to keep your drivetrain quiet, your shifts snappy, and your relatively expensive chainrings and cassettes free of premature wear.

An adventure-lover that's optimized to support popular 47mm gravel tires at low pressures, our Ultra-Wide Carbon 650B rims offer maximumized tire volume for compliance, traction, and stability in the dirt. 3mm of offset balances spoke angles and tensions for a stiffer, stronger, more durable wheelset, while the hookless design increases impact resistance. With a bias toward comfort and traction, these rims are great for technical gravel, bike-packing, speed commuting, and speed touring.

WHY WE CHOSE IT

The heart of any wheelset, the rear hub is particularly prone to failure due to its relative complexity and the extreme loads and environmental stresses it's subjected to. That's why we invested in a rear hub that utilizes a bombproof 54-tooth ring ratchet drive system, an oversized full-length 7075 AL axle, and (4) large-ball sealed cartridge bearings. At 6.67º, engagement is near instant. 

Our hubs cost 2-5x more than the failure-prone models some brands sneak in to pad their profits, and weigh a few grams more than small-bearing, narrow shell models that are often employed to achieve eye-catching weights at the expense of durability. We're not fooled. Our hubs may be light, but they're also built for the long haul.

WHY WE CHOSE IT

Our front hubs achieve their light weight without resorting to durability-compromising tricks. What do we mean? Just as there are brands that will use failure-prone aluminum nipples to shave grams, some may also spec a hub with tiny bearings and a narrow hub shell to achieve an eye-catching weight. However, those small bearings wear out fast, and that narrow shell may not withstand the torsional loads associated with disc brakes.

WHY WE CHOSE IT

Why invest so much on so many fancy bladed spokes? Because the same cold-forging process that turns a length of round straight-gauge wire into a light and aero bladed spoke also improves strength-to-weight and elastication by realigning the grain flow of the metal and reducing its cross-sectional area. The result is a spoke that can be run at high tension while experiencing less change in tension and thus fatigue with each wheel rotation or impact. Furthermore, unlike cheaper round "butted" spokes that are in fact cold-forged in a similar process, bladed spokes can easily be built into a wheel and later trued without inducing spoke wind-up, further extending the life of the wheel. To cap it off, we went with J-Bends because they're easier to find should one fail, and avoided low spoke counts to make it unlikely you'll ever have to.

WHY WE CHOSE IT

Why do mechanics love externally adjustable brass nipples? Aluminum nipples are a trick used by some brands achieve attention-grabbing weights at the expense of durability and serviceability. Aluminum oxidizes and is much softer than brass, making aluminum nipples notoriously prone to seizure, splitting, and failure.
